I personally think that digital media shouldn't be a core subject, but I'm on the fence about it being a required subject either. Things like math, science, history, and english (aka the core classes) usually can be applied to most things you do in your life in one way or another. Math helps in basically any situation with money, history and science can help you learn about the places you live in, and english is great for any reading or writing situation. Digital media doesn't feel as if it would fit into something like a core subject to me. It feels more specialized than the other subjects, as it deals with programs like photoshop or indesign. Sure, there are things to take from it that can drastically help you in the future, but I don't think it's enough compared to what we have now. On top of that, students probably wouldn't like having 5 core subjects, as keeping track with four of them is already a hassle at times.
That's just my opinion though. Maybe it would be an amazing idea to make it a core subject because of obvious reasons that I can't see. I'll probably update this if my opinions change at some point, but that's my stance on it at this moment.

I used to think that it wouldn't matter too much if I didn't have access to a TV. However, after thoroughly thinking about it for a minute, I realized that a lot of things would change. I would have no access to the news, cartoons, late night shows, comedy shows, and my ps4. Of course, the most concerning to me is unfortunately the ps4. That thing is expensive you know, so not being able to use it anymore would dampen the mood for me.
However, I'd like to think there are some upsides to this. It would keep me from getting attached to something like a game or show for hours. It would encourage me to talk to people more, get outside more, and overall be less of a couch potato. Options like reading a book or working on schoolwork would be more open to me. Overall, I think it would probably be an interesting idea that i could actually benefit from! |
